How do I contact the LHSC?
|
Email addresses are listed on the 'Contact Us'section of this website and should generate the most direct response. You can also reach the
Eastside Youth Soccer Association website. The club is a volunteer, non-profit organization so we do not have
a formal brick and mortar office.
|
What ages does the club support?
|
The club supports Girls and Boys teams for U-6 through U-18.
Ages are referred to as U-xx, where the 'U' indicates "under", and xx is the age. So, U-8 indicates an age group that is under 8 years old at the time of cutoff. The cutoff
date is July 31, so in order for a child to play U-8, they would have to be not older than 7 years old on July 31st of that playing season. A player needs to be at least 5
years of age as of the cutoff date to be added to a team. See the Age Chart to determine your child's U-xx
level.
|
How many players does the club
have?
|
It grows every year. Currently we are supporting approximately
1500 players.
|
When is registration?
|
Registration varies but typically begins on April 1st and
continues thru mid-June --- see the Registration pages for
more information. Please note that if your child is playing for the first time we require a copy of a birth certificate for proof of age. Now with on-line registration, it is
important to know that your child isnt registered until a copy of a birth certificate is received by the Club. Registration is done
online and advertised in local papers, with signs and flyers at local schools.
|
How much does it cost?
|
Please see the Registration page for current costs. There is a
penalty for late registration. Also, if you register late, there is no guarantee that you will be placed on the same team as last year. Registration amounts are a factor of
costs to bring you the facilities and administration required to run this soccer Club. Field maintenance and rentals are a big slice of the budget. These costs increase every
year.

My daughter has a friend who is on a certain team, and
she wants to play with her friend. Can I make a request for that?
|
As much as we would like to accommodate such requests, please
understand that these requests usually cannot be honored, depending on the makeup of the team, its size, coach, location, etc. A coach cant promise you a spot on his/her
team. This well intentioned promise always leads to disappointment when the parent finds out that a coach made a promise that they shouldnt have made.
|
When are practices?
|
For U-8 and higher practices are typically held twice a week,
either on Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday. There are different time slots for each practice day: for example
from 4:00 to 5:15, and from 5:30 to 6:45. Actual practice times are set by the need to fit in a time slot for all of the teams. In October, when it starts getting dark
earlier, the practice slots may change to fewer days per week for each team and/or less time as well. Coaches will request a day and time that best suits them, not everybody
gets their first choice of practice times.
|
When is the season?
|
The season begins just after Labor Day in September and runs on
consecutive weekends until completed. For rec level teams typically mid-November. As discussed previously, practices typically start in mid August but exact start date
depends on the coach.
|
When are the games?
|
All U-8 to U-13 games are played on Saturday. For boys soccer
U-14 and up the games are on Sunday. Girls play on Saturday until U-15, then switch to Sundays. These days cant be changed, we only have so many time slots for games each
weekend day, and the schedule needs to fit all of the Eastside teams on the schedule. Teams generally play around 10 games for the season.
|
When is the season?
|
The season begins just after Labor Day in September and runs on
consecutive weekends until completed. For rec level teams typically mid-November. As discussed previously, practices typically start in mid August but exact start date
depends on the coach. For ClubSelect teams the season will run longer into early December.
|
Where do I get a uniform?
|
Check out the uniform page for more information.
|
When do practices begin?
|
They can start anytime after August 1, but depend entirely on the
coach. Most teams begin practice in mid to late August.
|
What does my child need to bring to
practice?
|
-
Soccer shoes with cleats (no baseball cleats
allowed)
-
Soccer shin guards (required! A player without shin guards
will not be allowed to participate)
-
A water bottle
-
A soccer ball (fully-inflated and the right size as shown
below)
-
Enthusiasm!
Bring these same items to every game too!
|
What do I do if I have a problem with the coach (such as
not treating all players fairly, unequal playing time, etc.)?
|
Talk to the coach first. Most problems can be resolved
immediately simply by taking up your concern with the coach. If you feel that this hasn't provided a solution to your concern, come back to this website and contact the LHSC
Board with your concerns.
|
How much playing time should my child reasonably
expect?
|
Club rules require that all recreation level players play at
least 50% of every game. The only exceptions allowed are if the player misses practice, or their actions require some form of reasonable discipline by the coach.
|
I haven't heard from my child's coach yet, what's going
on?
|
We ask our coaches to contact each member on their roster early,
occasionally some wait until a week before they want to start practices. U-6 and U-7 players typically dont start until after Labor Day, so a coach may wait until the first
of September to call. All other age groups (except Select) will begin practices sometime in August (coaches preference) with most teams beginning practices from mid to late
August.

Where does the club get referees for the
games?
|
Most of the referees are local youth, but we would like to have
more adult referees. Regarding the youth, the club encourages its players to consider becoming referees. Please see the Referee site for more information regarding how you can become a referee.
Please treat the referees with respect. Keep in mind that these
teenagers are usually players who are doing refereeing mostly for the money, and because they like soccer. They are trying to do their best out on the field. Yelling at them
or berating them won't help them in this task. Please keep all sideline comments positive. Thank the referee after the game, even if you don't agree with the calls, or feel
that a better job could've been done. One of the reasons we have insufficient numbers of referees is that many of these teenagers quit refereeing after about 3 or 4 years, and
the common reason they give is that they're tired of being yelled at by the coaches and parents. These teenagers are your neighbors, and it's likely your son or daughter may
be one of them someday. Treat them with respect. Leave it to the coach to talk with the referee if there is a need. The sad fact is that we lose 1/3 of the referees in the
state each year due to abuse from the sidelines. But
we would definitely like to have more adult referees. If you're unsure how to assist the club or your team, then attend one of the referee training clinics, learn more about
the game, and go out and referee a few games!
|
Do we keep score?
|
Below U-10 no score will be kept or recorded. Starting at U-10
the score is recorded by the coach and reported to the EYSA but only for purposes of placing the team in the proper competitive division the following season. Starting at U-11 and higher scores are recorded and reported. Links are available on the EYSA web site.
